FAQs

Does laser removal hurt?

Laser hair removal is virtually painless. Some people do experience a light prickling sensation or a feeling of heat, however our state-of-the-art lasers feature a built-in cooling device to combat any discomfort. These sensations are more evident in sensitive areas such as the bikini line or face, but any feelings of discomfort are momentary and do not persist after the treatment.

Laser tattoo removal is uncomfortable, but most people tolerate the pain very well. Many of our clients liken the feeling to an elastic band being flicked onto their skin. Cool packs are compressed onto the skin before and after treatment to lessen any discomfort, and a topical anaesthetic such as Emla numbing cream may be used.

Are there side effects?

Your skin may be slightly red for a short time after laser treatment. This is normal and settles within 24-48 hours. Pigmentation can also occur, especially in tanned skin, however this tends to resolve itself within 6-12 months.

Blistering, scabbing and itching are other possible side-effects and are more common with laser tattoo removal, however these will usually settle within 7 days.  Scarring may occur in very rare cases, however if the treated area is cared for as advised, this should not happen.

To combat any side-effects, we recommend taking an anti-histamine and applying bio-oil to soothe the treated area. You must keep out of strong sunlight and avoid sunbeds throughout your course of laser removal, and always use an SPF (sun protection factor) 30 on the area you are having treated.

How quickly will I see results?

Laser hair removal will produce results straight away. There will be a 20-30% reduction after the first treatment, with a further 10% reduction from each treatment thereafter. The hairs that do grow back will be lighter and less coarse.

Laser tattoo removal will generate fading from the first session, however the results are more variable as they are dependent on factors including the type of ink used and the depth of the tattoo. We will be able to advise you in more detail during a face-to-face consultation.

How many treatments will I need?

To get the best result, treatments should be undertaken regularly.

With laser hair removal, the main objective is to catch the hair during a growth phase so it can be killed off. We would suggest treatment every four weeks for facial hair and every six weeks for other areas. You should plan on a minimum of six treatments.

As tattoos are unique to the individual, the treatment plan will be completely different for each client. Most tattoos require a minimum of eight treatments, however it’s impossible to give an accurate timeframe without seeing the actual tattoo. Book a no-obligation, one-to-one consultation now to speak to one of our laser removal experts.

Do you offer partial tattoo removal for the purpose of cover-ups?

Yes. We would be happy to fade your tattoo to the point where a tattooist could effectively work a new design over it.

Does laser hair removal work on blonde, red or grey hair?

No. As melanin (dark pigment) is needed in order for the treatment to be effective, laser hair removal unfortunately does not yet work on blonde, red, white or grey hair.

I have Asian/black skin. Will laser removal work for me?

We only offer laser hair removal for skin types 1-4. We will only perform treatment on clients if we feel it will give worthwhile results, and unfortunately we cannot guarantee this for darker skin tones.

Because we are the only clinic to have two different lasers designed for tattoo removal, we are able to use this treatment on all skin types. However, please be aware that green ink on black skin is untreatable.

Can I have laser removal if I’m pregnant?

Although there is no evidence to show that laser treatment will cause any harm to an unborn baby, we do not offer laser removal to pregnant clients as a precaution.
